November 17, 2009

On November 17 we celebrate 65 years since the birth of actor and director Danny DeVito.

Danny DeVito is one of the most famous and popular personalities in Hollywood, his career as a actor being doubled by the director and producer.

Born in Ashbury Park, New Jersey, he attended the Catholic school and chose a make up artist career at his sister’s salon.

He made his debut in film with a small role in the drama ‘Dreams of Glass’ (1968). After several unsuccessful experiences in the world of film, DeVito has focused more on theater. During this time he met actress Rhea Perlman, whom he later married in 1982. In 1972 he returned to film with a role in ‘Lady Liberty’, a comedy in which he starred next to Sophia Loren.

Known for his work in front of the camera, he passed on the other side, producing and directing several films. He directed several episodes of the TV series ‘Amazing Stories’ in the mid ’80s, and directed films like ‘Throw Momma From the Train’ and ‘War of the Roses’, in the ’90s, extending his work as a producer.

The best known of his productions are ‘Pulp Fiction’ Quentin Tarantino’s (1994) – film awarded seven Academy Award nominations and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1994, ‘Reality Bites’ (1995), ‘Get Shorty’ (1995), ‘Gattaca’ (1997), ‘Out of Sight’ (1998) and ‘Living Out Loud’ (1998).
